Default Getting back in the game, need some advice

Hi all,

I have been a long time GW player but I quit just before Nightfall.

Im highly considering getting back into the game because I really love the PVP and Im curious how the new (semi new I guess) xpac is.

So a few questions. I have 5 level 20's. A necro, Rit, Mesmer, Warrior and Monk. Which would be the best choice to go through the xpac? I was always a big fan of my Mesmer, how is this class now for PVE/PVP?

I want to PVP most of the time but I figure I'll go through the PVE portion to get some new gear on what ever char I go with.

Currently I know almost nothing of the current game's state so any advice would be really appreciated. I'm leaning towards my Necro or Mesmer but I have no idea how the new skills compliment each class and what would be the best decision. I also want to be able to use the newest skills to PVP with, so keep that in mind please when posting.

Thanks for all who reply!
Cheers

Mesmers still suck in pve and nobody wants them. Necro MM's are still very well liked and easy to get in a group or even play with your heroes/henchies. PVP is still the same ole cookie cutter style of pvp. It still has it's elitist who think their stuff is better than anyone elses and they know all. The best fun pvp areas are still AB and FA and perhaps if you're just really into chaos RA. You can play through all the chapters an even the expansion now in normal mode without hardly any effort at all. I can sit back and watch my heroes and henchies play most of the time and not do anything but pick up the loot. Even in hard mode I can play with as few as my 3 heroes and nothing else and still not have to do anything but loot in many places. It's a lot EASIER than it ever was before. Don't be surprised if you don't become bored rather rapidly.

Mainly Valkyries everything is just easier and they are just giving away all the equipment from the Zashien chest drops you can use keys on that you get from 5k Balth faction from pvping now. So, since you like PVP you'll be able to get a chitload of rare weapons now out of that chest. Yes crystalline swords, elemental swords, reavers, you name it it will drop it eventually. They have dumbed the game down so much an 8 year old could play it blindfolded.

You should go play Warcraft... I just came from there, you would fit in well with the immature elitists there.

Thanks for everyone else who had something useful to contribute I'll give it a go and see if the game is still worthwhile to play. I guess I'll do that before I go buy the xpac. The game was very well done when I started playing over 2 years ago. It's very sad to hear they seemed to have ruined that and the fun factor. Hopefully I can still get some enjoyment, if not I guess its off to LOTRO or Conan

Thanks for the comments guys, its' appreciated.

Since you haven't played for a while it'll be fun for you, for a bit. I'm not sure how long. They changed way too much to post here, go read wiki.

Also when talking about immature elitists, this is the game you want, nothing else.

I agree with this and dont understand the OPs attitude towards it.

No one else can tell you how to play, how is it being elitist saying play what you personally enjoy?

Valkyrie get a grip or go back to wow yourself.

And to actually answer your question so you dont flame me for not contributing, you can play any class in PVE and use Ursan Blessing. Sounds like just the skill for you.

Well, there is actually lots to do. Try Hard-mode for a challenge, it should take some time to learn all the tricks. PvP is light-years better than anything you'll have done in WoW. The game has become far more "Polished". It plays better than any MMO going. GWEN is a beautiful environment, has some nice new skills. NF is definitely worth it for the Hero System, very unique feature for an MMO. There is so much since Pre NF that you'll have plenty to do for several months.

Normal Mode did get easier as pointed out above, but that was done when Hardemode was implemented. So play everything in Hard-mode if you want to sweat a bit. No honor farmers in GW currently because of the new /Report feature, so you'll not get the same feeling of being Farmed, the way you do in Alterac Valley, WSG etc. .

Welcome back, and don't let the forums trolls bite you toes on the way out.

See above for fanboi opinion of the game. It's hardly all that he mentioned. It's more boring now if anything.

One thing I can suggest is, redo some missions with your favorite toons whith Heroes and Hench. Or with some pugs or guildies.

Look up PvXWiki to give you a start and try out some builds in RA for your favorite chars. PvXWiki

And, as Balan had pointed, watch out for your toes.

Valk, keep in mind that the forums aren't usually as bad as this, there just seems to be a rash of trolls that appear whenever a new player or old player introduces themselves. They see it as easy bait. Because it's GW and not WoW you'll never have to worry about arse-hats like this while in game. That's mostly why they troll here. At Guru. If you're wanting less WoW-like dung in your forums try GWOnline.

EotN is a lot of fun, imo, in spite -- err, ahem -- of what others may say. I have found it to be quite challenging and entertaining. (If liking GW makes me a "fanboi", well, so be it .)

I'd say EotN will be more challenging for your mesmer than for the other other classes you mentioned, at least that was my experience. I have played a warrior, ranger, elementalist, monk, and mesmer through EotN and the mes got stomped the the most times -- but that could also just be an indication that I am "mesmer-impaired". lol

If I had to choose between Nightfall and Eye of the North, though, I'd probably get Nightfall -- more content, more fun. Again, just my opinion.

Can't speak to the PvP issue, as I don't.

Welcome back!

I agree, half the negative comments on this forum come from people who don't even play anymore.

By xpac do you mean expansion pack, as in GWEN?

GWEN contains no pvp stuff, so if thats your main interest you might want to avoid it. But it does add a few nice pvp things like dungeons, extra areas, some new titles, armor, weapons blah blah blah.... oh and a lot of new heroes.

Its worth it to keep you playing for maybe a few more months. I liked it... but then I got bored and went to HGL for a change. I pop back now and again. It also has the "hall of monuments" which is usefull for gw2 to unlock unique stuff.

Also for pvp, they are selling a core skills pack in the online store now to give all pvp and pve characters all skills. You might want to check that out for both sides.

GWEN is cheap at play.com, so if you dont want to spend too much... check it out.

Thats the worry though.

A good mesmer can and will be a great addition to any party, unfortunatly there are also a great many bad mesmers out there.

In the average pug where the players are an unknown the choice becomes do we pick the UB wammo or the strange looking mesmer.

Then again there are always heros to use.
